2. Collection and Processing of Personal Data in the App

When using our “Plazes” app, we process the following data:

  • Usage Data: Information about how the app is used (e.g., pages accessed, duration of use, interactions).

  • Technical Data: Device type, operating system, app version, and crash reports if applicable.

  • Location Data: Only if you explicitly grant permission (e.g., to display your current location on the map). Granting location access is voluntary.

  • Camera Access: Our app requests access to your device’s camera so you can conveniently take photos of points of interest (POIs) while using the Audio Guide feature. Camera access is only enabled after you have explicitly granted permission via the system dialog.

    • Purpose of Camera Use: The camera function is used solely to allow you to capture your own photos of places or sights as part of your tour experience.

    • Storage and Processing: Photos taken through the app are stored only locally on your device. We do not automatically upload, analyze, or share your photos with third parties or our servers. Any images you take remain private and are not accessible to us.

    • Data Sharing: Your photos are not transmitted to us or any third-party provider unless you actively choose to share them through another service outside of our app. Revoking Permission: You can withdraw camera access at any time via your device settings. If you do so, the camera-based features will no longer be available in the app.

We do not create user accounts, nor do we process any payment information.

3. Tools and Services Used

a) Firebase Analytics

We utilize Firebase Analytics (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) to analyze user behavior within the app and improve our services.

The following data may be collected in an anonymized manner:

  • Duration of use

  • Device type and operating system

  • In-app activities (e.g., which guides are used)

Firebase Analytics employs a pseudonymized user ID. There is no linkage to your identity unless you sign in to Google services (which is not possible within our app).

Data Transfer to Third Countries: It is possible that data may be transferred to Google servers outside the EU (e.g., in the USA). Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

b) Hosting & CDN

  • Google Cloud: App content is stored and processed on Google Cloud servers.

  • KeyCDN: Static content (e.g., images, audio files) is delivered via the KeyCDN content delivery network to ensure fast and stable availability.

  • Geoapify: We use Geoapify (Geoapify GmbH, c/o WeWork, Axel-Springer-Platz 3, 20355 Hamburg) for map services and geodata.

All service providers are contractually obligated to process your data only in accordance with our instructions and in compliance with the GDPR.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Your data is processed based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in analyzing and ensuring the error-free operation of the app) or—if you explicitly consent, such as for location access—based on Article 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).

5. Data Storage and Deletion

Your data is stored only as long as necessary to achieve the purposes mentioned or until you object to the processing or withdraw your consent.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data

  • Rectify inaccuracies

  • Request deletion

  • Restrict processing

  • Data portability

You can object to processing based on legitimate interests at any time. If processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time with future effect. Additionally, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
